"Vesti  Primorye" with reference to the  “Izvestiya” news site informs, that Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation will deploy super heavy high-speed MiG-31 interceptors to the Primorsky region. MiG-31 interceptors, which are being called "combat air vehicles", will cover the airspace of Primorsky region, Khabarovsk region and Sakhalin from aviation, unmanned weapon and aerodynamic missile of the enemy. According to experts, the MiG-31 - is a purely defensive weapon, which will  strengthen the air defense of the Far East.

Squadron of MiG-31 interceptors is being located on the army used airport of Vladivostok city. Since, now Vladivostok regiment is being re-equipt with modern Su-35C, MiG-31 will be the basis of the new fighter aviation regiment.

Interceptor MiG-31, which is capable of long-range flights - one of the heaviest  and high-speed fighter aircrafts in the world. It’s length is over 22 meters and weighs is about 45 tons, flying range of the interceptor is more than three thousand kilometers, and the speed can be built up up to three thousand km / h.

The interceptor is capable of target’s intercepting at height of several tens of meters and up to 30 kilometers. Through the use of unique radar and long-range missiles, MiG-31 can strike enemy planes at the distance of 300 kilometers.

Currently, Russian Aerospace Forces have only two regiments of extra-heavy interceptors MIG-31.  Besides, there are a few individual squadrons of MIG-31 in some of the fighter aviation regiment on the territory of Russia.
