Russia is interested in transit possibilities of the Trans-Siberian railway (Part 2)
Today, the situation changes for the best. In 2018 the project of transporting Japanese goods via the Trans-Siberian railway got its reborn. 11 special block-trains have already crossed the territory of Russia carrying the Japanese goods to Europe.
In November of this year the Ministry of transport of Japan will launch several pilot projects. Goods will be ferried from two Japanese cities to Vladivostok and then they will be transported to Moscow and will reach its final destination in Poland. If this experiment turns out to be effective, it is possible that Japan will start using more Russian transit possibilities.
If the economic collaboration will be beneficial for both countries, it is possible that the Kuril Islands problem will no longer affect the political relationships between Russian and Japan.
