Seaside inventors tame electrical impulses that can "erase" pain. Young scientists, the University creates a new neurostimulator. The domestic analogue of the expensive imported device will be affordable, which will allow many hospitals to provide high-tech assistance. Meanwhile, in the far East, neurostimulators are implanted only in the medical center on Russky island.

Quiet, operation in progress! The patient is implanted with a device to relieve pain and constant medication. The device, similar to a pacemaker, is able to treat epilepsy, motor disorders, Parkinson's disease. But only 4% of those in need can allow to correct the state of the nervous system in Russia because of the high cost of an imported neurostimulator, the price of which is about a million rubles.

A compact titanium case with a microchip inside is implanted under the skin. And thin electrodes are inserted directly into the brain or spinal cord. Electrical stimulation prevents the wrong work of neural connections, "turning off" the destroyed part of the brain. This helps to reconfigure the nerve pathways and restore the ability to walk after a stroke or injury. Technology relieves seizures and epilepsy, says future programmer Michael Lamai.

Mikhail Lyamaev, project Manager for the development of a domestic neurostimulator: "A special electrical signal is supplied. Around this electrode is formed an electromagnetic field, within which neurons can not transmit signals. A strong field prevents the transmission of the signal and around this electrode the damaged area of the part of the brain is blocked."

Michael leads a team of developers of the domestic neurostimulator. Promising young people from the Center of project activities swung at the creation of an accessible device for people. They have yet to improve the software and test the device on animals to assemble a prototype of the Russian industrial design.

Stanislav Karpenko, Director of the FEFU project activity Center: "We will be able to manage it from the outside, using modern information technologies, which distinguishes such devices from existing analogues in the world. Our equipment will be cheaper due to our know-how."

In the Center of the project activity, students work on the prosthesis of the foot with the original mechanics and the electrode for implantation, which will allow them to feel the prosthesis and easily manage it. Such developments are already waiting for Russian manufacturers of medical implantable devices and everyone who wants to get a chance for a full life.
