The history of Vladivostok’s funicular

Not yet, I have only taken the funicular once in my life and I’m 34. This historical moment happened four days ago.

Vladivostok’s funicular is being repaired. The works of this kind haven’t been done there in a while. The builders repaire the roof and strengthen the concrete support of the railways. The next stage of the global reconstruction will start on June 1, when the funicular will be closed for the public.

The history of the Vladivostok’s funicular starts in the 50s. The funicular was built after Nikita Khrushchev’s special order.

USSR used to have 6 funiculars all over the country, but now only 4 are left now: in Kiev, Kaunas, Baku and Vladivostok.

The Vladivostok’s funicular was opened on May 5, 1962. This year the funicular celebrates its 58th anniversary.
