Scientists from Primorye learnt to breed oysters

Specialists from the Pacific branch of the Russian Federal Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography managed to breed pacific oyster in artificial environment for the first time in the Far Eastern region. In the future, Primorye citizens will have a chance to buy local molluscs.

The achievement happened in the scientific centre on Popov island. In the laboratories, «parents» oysters were put into four special reservoirs. The water in these pools could be controlled, making it a perfect place for breeding.

«Children» oysters were feeding on a special micro seaweed.

The pacific oyster has been cultivated for a couple of years in Primorye. But this time, scientists found a way to cultivate it regardless of the weather.
