Leopard with a “double citizenship” was seen at the border between Russia and China
Photos of a far-eastern leopard taken by a Chinese tourist on the road between Kraskino and Hunchun made headlines in China. After having analyzed the pictures, “Land of the leopard” workers recognized a male leopard Leo 59 M in the animal.
National park’s territory is close to the border with China. Not taking this fact into account, a part of leopard and tiger’s populations regularly travel between two countries. In 2017, on the area of 1,46m hectares a North-Eastern national park of tigers and leopards was created in China.
Experts mention that an increasing economic cooperation between two countries lead to a boarder crossings development. In Russia, as well as in China, wild cats become victims of road accidents, that’s why there is a demand for building various under ground roads.
According to “Land of the leopard” data, since 2014 Leo 59M has been already seen on this road. Just like other 15 spotted cats, this male has a “double citizenship”.
