The fishermen of Primorye and the people of the tributaries of the Amur river was left without a fall chum salmon

There is a risk of losing the salmon population forever. In recent years, the salmon was even hard to meet
WWF supported a survey of the local population to identify the situation with salmon on the Amur and its tributaries. It was held in the Primorsky and Khabarovsk territories and the Jewish Autonomous region of the student brigades for nature conservation.

Interest in the situation with salmon on the Amur river does not weaken, social networks continue to actively discuss the issue of reducing the number of Pacific salmon coming to the Amur to spawn. This is noticeable even in the lower reaches of the Amur, as WWF Russia has repeatedly received appeals from citizens.

In the framework of operation "Silver salmon" four squads for the conservation of nature conducted a survey of residents of eight settlements in Primorsky, Khabarovsk territories and the Jewish Autonomous region, situated on the tributaries of the Amur river: Tunguska, Urmi, cook (Khabarovsk Krai and the Jewish Autonomous region), Ussuri, Arsenievka, Pavlivka, the Malinovka river (Primorsky Krai), and in the lower reaches of the main channel of the Amur river (S. Lower Halby, Khabarovsk Krai). In total, more than 450 people were interviewed during the survey.

"Who better than us to solve the problems of our region? The life of the indigenous population and the stability of the entire ecosystem depend on the number of salmon in our Amur river. We must not allow this species to disappear! Therefore, the squads decided to unite and jointly take steps towards the study and solution of this problem," Nargiza Urinbaeva, commander of the squad of nature protection "lower Amur environmental inspection", Komsomolsk – on-Amur, comments.

Local residents were asked to answer questions about the situation with autumn chum salmon: what does fishing mean for people, how often do they fish, how do they estimate the number of fish in the river, what is considered the reason for the change in the number of autumn chum salmon, what years, in their opinion, were the most productive and not Several questions were devoted to the number of their personal catches.

"We are interested in the problem of salmon, and of course we do not remain indifferent! The guys from our squad "Tis" interviewed almost 180 people in three districts of Primorsky Krai. After talking with people "heart to heart", we found out that the problem of reducing the fish stocks of the Amur and its tributaries is really relevant in our time. According to the results of the survey, chum salmon practically disappeared in some areas. If 5 years ago the population "lived" on this fish, now everyone is concerned that it is very small and it occurs only once. For example, in Yakovlevsky district fishermen in one voice said that in recent years, even hard to meet Ketu, but before she was in their rivers and in large quantities. If we talk about Dalnerechensk and Chuguev districts, there is still a catch of chum salmon, but its number has decreased significantly," says Valentina Pokamestova, commander of the squads of nature protection "Tis", Ussuriysk.
