«History of the region»: The end of the World War II. Part 4

The Far Eastern fleet, after entering the sea of Japan, cut the communications between Korea and Manchuria and Japan and bombed the Japanese navy. Then the Soviet paratroopers arrived in the North-Eastern China attacking the territory. The attack was so powerful that after 10 days since the beginning of the operation, the Japanese solders were surrendering despite the fact that the Japanese command planned to hold the invasion until the end of 1945. The Soviet army completely destroyed the Guandong army in only 11 days. On August 14th the military government of Japan decided to stop the war. After that decision, the USSR became in control of the North-Eastern China, North Korea, South Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands. Until September 1945 the Japanese army was continuing the resistance on South Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands.
