Stalin’s tunnel has been officially opened in Vladivostok. People was waiting for it to happen for 2,5 years - the last train has went through the tunnel on September 30, 2016. Since then, the tunnel was being reconstructed. Builders had to work hard and in difficult technical and geological conditions.
The construction was built back in 1935, being one of the oldest railway tunnels in the Far East. Suburban trains going through it were transporting 1/6 of passengers of the Far East region, which leads us to 1,100 million people. The reconstruction was being planned to start in 2008, but for some reason, it was postponed.
Now the ply of suburban trains has been renewed.
