The Day of Unity of Peoples of Russia and Belarus has been celebrated in Ussuriysk. This holiday is being celebrated for already more than 15 years. Representatives of Belarussian diaspora from different parts of Primorsky region have gathered all together at the same table. This time festival organizers have prepared national exhibition and big concert for the guests.
Handmade towels and other national handicrafts have been displayed at the national exhibition. Needlewomen of Primorsky region preserve folk traditions. Their great-grandmothers taught them to embroider. In their historical homeland, in Belarus, such towels were a part of everyday life, today embroider turned out to be a hobby that helps to bind generations together.
Nina Bruylo, a member of the Belarusian diaspora: "These things are made by our hands, Belarusian hands. Some of the things were made by me, others by my sisters. Now we preserve all the handicrafts. There is the tablecloth that was weaved by my grandmother".
The Day of Unity of Peoples of Russia and Belarus is being massively celebrated in Primorsky region. The main events dedicated to this date are being held in Ussuriysk, because regional organization "Belarusians of Primorsky region" is here. Today regional organization "Belarusians of Primorsky region" is one of the most active public organizations in the region.
Today, Belarusians from all over Primorsky region are here. They share their plans and boast of achievements. Last year, thanks to the grant, provided by regional administration, it became possible to organize an ethnographic expedition to the north of the region. Different antiquities have been collected during the expedition. Now all of them can be seen in Belarusian House museum.
According to the unofficial data, at present there are almost 7000 indigenous Belarusians in Primorsky region. But many call themselves Russians, because the stories of these two countries are inseparable.
