Far Eastern leopards hid in caves

Strong colds that came to Primorsky Krai in the second half of January affected the behavior of the inhabitants of the Land of the Leopard. Wanting to warm up, rare spotted cats spend more time in various shelters, and, first of all, in caves, in many of which the positive temperature persists even in the cold.

Rare cold came to Primorye early in the week. According to "Primgidromet", the night from January 24 to January 25 in the regional capital was the coldest since 2001. With a strong north wind, the thermometer's columns dropped to -25 degrees Celsius. In a number of districts of the region, the daily average daily temperature was 7-10 degrees lower this week.

The Far Eastern leopard is the most frost-resistant representative of its species. The thick long fur allows it to withstand the low minus temperatures noted in the south of Primorye in the middle of January. However, the tropical origin affects the attitude of a rare cat to frost. For example, unprotected paws of the paws of predators freeze on contact with snow and sometimes become covered with grazes from sharp ice.
