Sikhote-Alin’s meteor celebrates its 75th anniversary

It is at least a billion and a half years old, and its permanent address was the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. But 350 million years ago its orbit began to shift, and as a result - February 12, 1947, at 10 hours 38 minutes in the morning, at a speed of 40 kilometers per second, it crashed into the Ussuri taiga. Fans of astronomy and space mysteries celebrate the anniversary of the fall of the Sikhote-Alin meteorite today.

In honour of the meteor, the village Beitsuhe was renamed as Meteoritny. The nearest creeks are also the Malyi and Bolshoi Meteoritnyi. Even the hill, the slope of which received the main blow, was named Meteoritnaya.
