Pokrovsky park underwent serious changed

The works in Pokrovsky park should be finished by December. They include the improvement of walking areas and the installation of lighting and benches. All of the works are being held with a maximum delicacy since it is prohibited to dug deep of the park’s territory.

Natalia Rudenko, Head of Tourism and Urban Environment Investment Department of Vladivostok City Administration: "The place is historical and close to the heart of citizens. We decided not to rearrange the park, but to go with the current improvement. There will be lighting and benches, and the design of benches was worked on together with historians. The benches will be made of cast iron and wood ».

Some of the trees in Pokrovsky Park are honorary old-timers. They are silent witnesses to its sad history. Under their roots and under our feet still lie the remains of dozens of thousands of citizens.

By estimations of historians - about one hundred thousand. This was the main cemetery of Vladivostok. It's believed that the first grave appeared there 13 years after the city's foundation. People have been buried there for almost half a century, and, probably, the last person to rest there, in April of 1922, was a 36-year-old citizen Viktor Filippovich Powers.

This spring the park’s territory is promised to change completely - tons of black earth and seedlings will be brought, lawns will be laid out.
