Citizens of Varfolomeevka value their historical memory

Varfolomeevka remembers its heroes. The countrymen who fought on the fronts of the Second World War and those who ere missing, gradually find peace not only in places of battle, in the West, where search engines find evidence of them but also in the Homeland, in the East. Grandsons and great-grandsons, inspired by their deeds, dedicate poems to their family members.

15 years ago, the village got its own obelisk. Since then, grandchildren and great-grandsons have been visiting the monument. They do not necessarily need a reason. Our crew met Vasily Boyko by chance. He was carrying his documents to the settlement administration. But he also had photographs of his grandfather, father and his warrior brothers with him.

Vasily Boyko, son of a World War II veteran: « Andrey Boyko is my father's older brother, there were five of them. Four are in the West, the father is in the East. Andrei died near Leningrad. Then comes Sergey, he went through the whole war. From Stalingrad, the division was moved to guard Stalin, in Tehran. And then Vladimir, he came disabled.»
