«History of the region»: The end of the World War II. Part 1

September 3rd, 1945 is considered to be the official end of the World War II. On this date, the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of USSR released a decree confirming Japan’s surrender. The surrender took place on «Missouri» liner in Tokyo bay.

Soviet Union itself by accomplishing its ally obligations and defeating the Guandong army of Japan ended the Second World War.

Ruslan Kulepanov, the member of the Institute of history, archeology and ethnography of the Far East: «The global society has an idea that the Second World War is only related to Europe. And it is usually stays forgotten that the war was called a world one because it has actually occurred all over the globe. During that period there were two centres of conflict - Nazi Germany and military Japan. Premises for the armed conflict occurred in the second half of the 19th century. Japan was aiming to become the ruler of the Asia-Pacific region by invading Korea and China and reaching the borders of Russia in 1931. Two armed conflicts between Russia and Japan took place in 1938 on lake Khasan and in 1931 on Khalkhin Gol river. The 1931 conflit can be considered a part of the Second World War. When the Soviet Union defeated Germany, it had an opportunity to help its allies - the United States of America and Great Britain by declaring war with Japan».
