Winter foraging areas are being arranged for ungulates on the territory of Leopard’s Land national park

The season of winter messings for ungulates has started in Leopard’s Land national park. 450 rolls of soybean straw, 100 tons of oats and 50 tons of corn will be a good stead for ungulates living in the national park. These animals due to heavy snowfall and poor acorn harvest risk not to make it through the winter.

Fodder is being laid out by specialists of the forestry department of the national park in the special foraging areas. Hundreds of deer, roe deer, wild boars are always there for breakfast, lunch, dinner and even night snack.

"Winter is going to be a tough for ungulates. Several snowfalls that hit Primorsky region made it difficult for them to search for food - explains Tatiana Baranowskaya, director of the Leopard’s Land national park. -The annual winter messings are helping to maintain a stable population of these animals, which is especially important due to the growth of the population of the Far Eastern leopard. "

It is important that these measures are solely aimed at maintaining the strength of ungulates and not providing them with unlimited feed, because wild animals should not lose the skills of food searching.
