This day became Tiger day in 2010 during the first tiger forum in Saint-Petersburg.
Nowadays, the population of tigers is increasing in Primorye. Specialists say that there are about 600 tigers. The number of these striped animals has increased in 15% during the last four years.
In the end of the 20th century the population was almost wiped out. Now the animals are protected by «Amursky tiger» center. Another threat for tigers is deforestation and wildfires.
Russia has its own tiger day. It is celebrated on the last Sunday of September.
